The Pongo de Aguirre (Aguirre Falls) is located where the impressive High Jungle region ends and the Amazon plains begin. It has been a traditional point for commerce, communication and cultural exchange.

The Spanish conqueror Lope de Aguirre, came across this route in his search for the legendary El Dorado. In 1971, Werner Herzog´s film “Aguirre, the Wrath of God” was shot on this location.
